Powder Safety

Patrols and Guides

The “Niseko Free Passport Patrol” members are specialized emergency staff. They can be identified by their clothes marked with the letters; “NFPP” and a “+” symbol. They are constantly patrolling the slopes of Niseko, throughout the winter seasons. If you need help due to sudden illness, injury etc. or you see a person in need of assistance; please notify a member of the NFPP.

“Niseko Ski Area Guides” are distinguished by a “?” mark and offer guide services throughout the Niseko region. They are happy to provide information about ski runs, the region, and facilities or point you in the right direction.

Local skiing rules

One of Niseko’s great attractions is the access to off piste and back country terrain, it is important to read the avalanche information prior to entry and pay attention to signage in the area.

Current avalanche information is available every day at lift stations and ticketing counters in all ski areas as well as the Hanazono website.

Off-piste and back country areas are outside the jurisdiction of ski area, it is prohibited to enter such areas by passing ropes, nets or bamboo poles.

In the event of an accident, parties concerned are liable to cover expenses relating to search and rescue activities.
